Bangladesh continues to need to import huge quantities of food due to the low productivity of its agricultural sector to feed its growing population. Imports of cereals, oils and sugar are the most important items under this heading.
Textile raw materials are mainly related to the cotton needed for the industry. Likewise, machinery is largely directed to the textile sector.
